Festivals: Netaudio 2008 London

We all know about the big festivals in Europe but what about smaller, different ones? Outdoor festivals have come to an end for this year but indoor it is just getting on the way.

This coming months I will be giving you other options where you can go starting with London from today until Saturday. The Netaudio festival will take place underneath the river Thames. The german edition took place in 2007 in Berlin, there is one in Barcelona and the original one took place in Bern. It is 4 day offline discussion about the future of music on the internet, showcases, visuals,  DVD installations, the newest DJ tools, headphone-only performances and shows from artists like A.R.E. Weapons, Audio Dependent, Disrupt and The Passive Resistance.

Full line-up can be found here.

Free CD, what is the next step?

Prince was first in the United Kingdom, giving away his latest CD with newspaper ‘Mail on Sunday’. In Belgium Sarah Bettens had a deal with De Morgen. Gabriel Rios his new one is going to be spread with Knack magazine in two weeks time. How about other european countries? Are there more countries where this phenomenon takes place? Or is it forbidden within some countries?

Giving away CDs is not new though, every music magazine around the world gave them away for years, but these were only compilations. Some artists don’t want that anymore also. And is it only a tool established artists can use? In the Netherlands Cool Jimmy (a unknown band) had a deal with Live XS, but this was only possible with a sponsor.

CDs are they here to stay or is mp3 (and other formats) still the future?
